# Customize a Dashboard

> Add widgets from the library, arrange them, add pages and controls, and get back any earlier layout

Press **Customize** (the pencil in the dashboard's toolbar) to change a dashboard. You can customize:

* **The account home**, if your role can edit it. Owners and admins can; see [Permissions](#who-can-change-what).
* **Your own dashboards**, always.
* **A teammate's dashboard**, if they picked you as someone who can change it. Owners and admins can change any dashboard shared with the account.

On a home you can't change, **More > Make my own copy** gives you a copy that is yours to change.

## The editing bar

While you edit, a bar across the top reads **Editing** and the dashboard's name, with:

| Part | What it does |
| - | - |
| Save status | **Changes save on their own**. The bar says **Saving…**, then **Saved** with the version number. If a save fails it says **Not saved**. |
| **Phone** | Shows the page as a phone shows it, so you can arrange the phone layout from your computer. It changes only what you see; nothing is saved. |
| **Add widget** | Opens the widget library. |
| **Undo** | Steps back through your changes, one at a time. |
| **More editing options** (⋯) | **Dates when it opens**, **Versions**, and on the account home **Reset to default**. |
| **Done** | Waits for the last save, then leaves editing. |

While you edit, widgets keep showing their live numbers, but buttons and links in them don't work until you press **Done**.

## Add widgets

**Add widget** opens the library. On a wide screen (1280 px and up) it sits beside the dashboard; on a smaller one it floats over it. It has three tabs.

### Ready-made

Ready-made widgets are grouped by the question they answer, such as **How are leads coming in?**, **Is revenue on track?**, **What needs my attention?** and **How is the team doing?**

* **Search** finds a widget by its words.
* **Department** narrows the list to one part of Hiveku: CRM, Marketing, Helpdesk, Accounting and the rest.
* **Shows** narrows it to what a widget shows: a number, several numbers, a trend over time, a breakdown, a table, a funnel, by day or hour, what needs attention, or part of the home page.
* Each choice says how many widgets it holds. **Clear filters** shows them all again.

**See a widget before you add it.** On a computer, rest the pointer on a widget for a moment and the widget itself opens beside the list, drawn exactly as it will look, with sample numbers. On a phone or tablet, press **Preview**. The sample numbers are made up; once you add the widget it shows your own. Home blocks and record lists show only their small sketch.

**Whole pages** sit at the top of the list: ready-made department pages (Leads, Money, Projects, Support, Phones and bookings, Reviews, Social, Automations). **Add as a page** adds one as a new page of the dashboard. A page leaves out any widget on numbers your plan or role doesn't include.

Widgets your plan or role can't see are shown locked, with the reason, at the end of their group. You can preview them, but not add them.

### Build your own

* **Describe the widget you want.** Type it in your own words, such as "New leads from Google Ads each day this month, against last year", and press **Fill it in**. Hiveku picks the settings, shows them in plain words with a preview on your real numbers, and adds nothing until you press **Add**. It only picks numbers Hiveku keeps and your role can see; when there is no such number it says so and offers the closest ones. Each fill uses a little of the account's AI credits.
* **Start a widget.** Choose any number Hiveku keeps, how to show it and what to split it by, yourself.
* **Several numbers.** Up to 15 numbers from any department in one list, each with its change.
* **Scorecard.** Up to 15 numbers from any department, each against its goal, with its change and its last 13 weeks.
* **Needs attention.** Only the numbers past a line you set, worst first, each with a link to its page. It says **All clear** when nothing is.
* **A button that runs a workflow.** See [Buttons and forms](/dashboards/buttons).

### Your data

The account's own tables. Each table offers widgets made from its columns, and a form that adds a row to it. See [Your data](/dashboards/your-data).

## Arrange widgets

* **Move** a widget by dragging its handle.
* **Resize** it by dragging its bottom-right corner.
* **Open its settings** by clicking it.

Each widget also has a menu that does everything a drag does, from the keyboard:

| Menu item | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Move** | Up, down, left or right. The menu stays open, so you can move several steps in a row. |
| **Size** | Narrower, wider, shorter or taller. |
| **Hide on phone** | Keeps the widget off the phone layout. |
| **Duplicate** | Adds a copy. |
| **Remove** | Takes the widget off the page. Undo brings it back. |

### The phone layout

On a phone, a dashboard is one column. Press **Phone** in the editing bar to see the page at a phone's width and put its widgets in the order a phone should show them. A widget hidden on phones still shows on a computer.

## Widget settings

Clicking a widget opens its settings beside the page. Changes save on their own.

| Setting | What it sets |
| - | - |
| **Data from** | Where the number comes from, such as Deals, Form leads or Calls. Your data tables are listed first. |
| **What to count** | The number itself, such as Open pipeline value or New leads. |
| **Show as** | Number, Line, Bars, Paths, Table, Share, Movers, Heatmap or List. Only the ways that suit the data are offered. A number can also be drawn as a gauge or a number grid, and bars as a bullet chart or a combo chart. |
| **Split by** | Groups the number, such as by stage, channel or person. |
| **More columns** | Other numbers of the same data beside the first. |
| **Only include** | Filters, such as one pipeline or one channel. |
| **Dates** | The dashboard's dates, or **Use its own dates** for this widget alone. |
| **Goal** | What the number is measured against. See [Goals](/dashboards/widgets#goals). |
| **Title** | The widget's name on the page. |

See [Widget types](/dashboards/widgets) for what each way of showing a number looks like.

## Controls

A **control** is one picker that changes many widgets at once, on every page of the dashboard, for example a **Channel** filter or an attribution **Credit** setting. Press **Add control** (in the row under the toolbar while editing) to see what a control could change:

* **Settings the widgets here have**, such as Credit or Lookback.
* **Filters the widgets here share**, such as Channel, each with how many widgets it would drive.
* **Dates** of its own, for the widgets you tick in its settings.

Every widget with that setting follows the control, unless the widget is set on its own. People looking at the dashboard change a control from its button in the row. Their pick is kept in the page's link, so they can send exactly what they see.

## Pages

A dashboard holds up to 10 pages, each with up to 30 widgets, and up to 100 widgets in all.

* **Add page** sits at the end of the page tabs. Give the page a name (up to 40 characters).
* Each tab has a menu: **Rename**, **Move left**, **Move right**, **Duplicate** and **Delete**. On a phone, the page list has **Move up** and **Move down** instead.
* **Delete** asks first, naming the page and how many widgets it holds. **Versions** can bring it back.

To add a ready-made department page, use **Whole pages** at the top of the library.

## Dates when it opens

**More editing options > Dates when it opens** sets the dates and comparison the dashboard opens at, for everyone. A person who picks other dates on their own device, or opens a link that names other dates, sees those instead.

## Undo, versions and reset

* **Undo** steps back through this session's changes.
* **Versions** lists the dashboard's saved versions, newest first, with when each was made and how. **Restore** makes an old layout the newest version; the one it replaces stays in the list, so nothing is lost. Changes saved close together count as one version, and the last 50 versions are kept.
* **Reset to default** (account home only) puts the home back to the layout Hiveku builds for the account. The layout you had stays in Versions, and Undo brings it back.

## Who can change what

| Who | Account home | Their own dashboards | A teammate's shared dashboard |
| - | - | - | - |
| **Owners and admins** | Customize, publish, reset | Yes | Change, make private, delete |
| **Anyone whose role has Account home: Edit** | Customize, publish, reset | Yes | Only if picked |
| **Everyone else** | View, or make their own copy | Yes | Only if picked |

Roles are set in **Settings > Team Members > Manage Roles**. See [Roles & Permissions](/settings/permissions#dashboards-and-team-activity).
