# Add an Author to Your Posts

> Add a named author with a role, photo and short bio, pick them on a post, and see where the byline shows

Every post carries a named author: the byline readers see, and the author search engines read in the page's details. Your first author is the default, and posts that name no one go out under them. Add more authors so the right person signs each post.

This guide adds Northwind's lead roaster, Marisol Vance, as a second author with a headshot from the Media Library, picks her on a new draft, and keeps Jamie Holloway as the default.

## Open Authors

In the left rail, click **Marketing**, then the **Content Management** card. Click the **Authors** tab.

![The Posts, Calendar, SEO plan, Authors and Tasks tabs, with Authors outlined, and the New post button](https://mintcdn.com/locusdigital/4q9lWgbbx6etDjWv/images/how-tos/content/author-01-authors-tab-closeup.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=4q9lWgbbx6etDjWv\&q=85\&s=c636cc413357a73f95d6a215e21c6c30)

The list shows each author with their role, how many posts they are on, and a **Default** badge on the default author.

## Add the author

**1. Click New author**

**2. Fill in who they are**

Type the **Name** and **Role**. Under **Credentials**, add a short line that shows why readers should trust them. Under **Bio**, write two or three sentences about them.

**3. Add a photo**

Under **Headshot**, click **Choose from media library**, click the photo (or **Upload** a new one), then **Insert Media**. You can also paste a link to a photo into the box.

**4. Add the extras, then create**

**Profiles (one URL per line)** takes links to the author's pages elsewhere, such as LinkedIn. **Voice notes for the writer** is a short note on how this author writes, such as first person and plain words. Leave **Default author** off to keep your current default. Click **Create author**.

The new author joins the list. **Make default** on their row makes them the default instead.

## Pick the author on a post

**1. When you start the post**

Click **New post** on the **Posts** tab, choose **Site Content**, then your collection, as in [Write and Publish a Blog Post](/how-tos/site-builder/write-a-blog-post). At the bottom of **New Content**, pick the name under **Author**, then click **Create**.

![New Content with the Origin Stories collection, the Create button and Author: Marisol Vance outlined](https://mintcdn.com/locusdigital/4q9lWgbbx6etDjWv/images/how-tos/content/author-07-new-post-author-closeup.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=4q9lWgbbx6etDjWv\&q=85\&s=993cd508f7a6107c402d35a92c40e2db)

**2. Or change it later**

In the post, the **Author** list under **Byline and structure** on the right changes it, and the line below says how the byline reads.

![Byline and structure, with Author: Marisol Vance and By Marisol Vance, Lead Roaster, outlined](https://mintcdn.com/locusdigital/4q9lWgbbx6etDjWv/images/how-tos/content/author-08-sidebar-closeup.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=4q9lWgbbx6etDjWv\&q=85\&s=bca5808fc6491971c9e5351d058efddf)

## Where the byline shows

On your site, the byline sits under the post's title once the post is published.

![The top of a published Origin Stories post, Huila, Colombia: Sweetness from the Southern Andes, with the byline Jamie Holloway outlined, next to Huila, Colombia, October 21, 2026 and 1 min read](https://mintcdn.com/locusdigital/4q9lWgbbx6etDjWv/images/how-tos/content/author-09-site-byline-closeup.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=4q9lWgbbx6etDjWv\&q=85\&s=915b106a8b6fc2ea5de70555f2f828e2)

Some site designs read the byline from a plain **author** box of their own, as Northwind's does. If the post's **Collection fields** have an **author** box, type the author's name there too, so the page and the post agree.

![Collection fields (Origin Stories) with the author box set to Marisol Vance, outlined, above origin Nyeri, Kenya and readTime](https://mintcdn.com/locusdigital/4q9lWgbbx6etDjWv/images/how-tos/content/author-10-collection-author-closeup.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=4q9lWgbbx6etDjWv\&q=85\&s=13335b650d5a5d9b866f7e77f191436f)

## Good to know

* **One default.** There is always one default author while you have any. To change it, click **Make default** on another author; you cannot delete the default while other authors exist.
* **Deleting an author** keeps their posts: those posts go out under the default author from then on.
* **The count on each row** (for example **2 items**) opens the posts that author is on.
* **More:** [Authors, Briefs and Titles](/marketing/content-briefs-and-titles) explains how the author is added to each published page.
