# Ring Several People at Once

> Make a ring group so a call rings several phones together or in turn, choose where it goes when nobody answers, and send a number's calls to it

A ring group rings several phones for one call: everyone at the front desk at once, or one after another. Whoever answers first takes the call, and if nobody does, the call goes where you choose, such as a voicemail box.

This guide makes a **Front desk** group for Northwind that rings two phones at once and goes to voicemail after 25 seconds.

## Make the group

**1. Open Ring groups**

Click **Communications** in the left rail, then **Routing** at the top, then **Ring groups**. Click **New ring group**.

**2. Name it and pick how it rings**

Type a **Name** and a **Group extension**, the short number your team dials to reach the group (7000 and up keeps it apart from people's own extensions). Under **Strategy**, pick how the phones ring:

* **Blast**: every phone rings at once, and the first to answer takes the call.
* **Hunt**: the phones ring one at a time, always starting with the first.
* **Round robin**: each call starts with the next person in turn, so calls are shared out.

**3. Choose where unanswered calls go, and who is in it**

**Ring seconds** is how long the phones ring. Under **If nobody answers**, choose where the call goes then, such as **Voicemail of an extension** and whose voicemail box. Without one, the caller hears silence and the call ends. Under **Members**, tick the phones that should ring.

**4. Create it**

Click **Create group**. If the list still says **No ring groups yet**, reload the page: the new group then shows with its members.

## Send a number's calls to it

Click **Routing**, then **Numbers**, and the pencil on your number's row. Set **Inbound routes to** to **Ring group** and pick your group under **Which ring group?**, then click **Save changes**.

The number rings the Front desk group

Note what the number rang before you change it, so you can set it back. Each person's own phones are listed as a ring group too, under **One person's phones**.

## Good to know

* **Change or remove a group** with the pencil or the bin on its card. Before you remove one, point any number that sends calls to it somewhere else.
* **Callers wait in line instead?** A ring group rings once and then gives up. To hold callers until someone is free, use a [call queue](https://docs.hiveku.com/how-tos/phone/call-queue.md).
