# Edit Your Content in the CMS

> Change text that lives in your site's CMS, like FAQ answers or blog posts, without touching code

Some of your site's content lives in the **CMS** (content management system) instead of in the page itself: blog posts, FAQ answers, team members and similar lists. You edit it in a simple form, and it reaches your live site the next time you publish.

In this example we add a new question to the Northwind FAQ page (the page we made in [Add a New Page](/how-tos/site-builder/add-a-page)).

## Open the CMS

**1. Click the CMS icon**

Open your site in the builder. In the row of icons above the preview, click **CMS** (the icon that looks like books on a shelf).

**2. Pick a collection**

The CMS opens full width. On the left is a list of your **collections**, one for each kind of content. Northwind has **Origin Stories** (its blog posts) and **Frequently Asked Questions**. Click the one you want to change.

**3. Open an entry**

Each collection lists its **entries**. Use the search box or the **All**, **Draft**, **Published**, **Scheduled** and **Archived** filters to find one, then click it. The Northwind FAQ is a single entry named **general**.

## Make the change

**1. Edit the fields**

The entry opens as a form. Change any field by clicking into it and typing. Lists of items, like the FAQ's questions, have an **Add item** button at the bottom.

We clicked **Add item** and filled in a new question and its answer:

Two seconds after you stop typing, Hiveku saves your edits as a draft. The panel on the right shows **Draft saved** with the time.

**2. Click Save**

Click **Save** at the top of the form. If the panel on the right still shows **Publish draft**, click it and confirm.

**3. Check the status**

The entry is now **Published** in the CMS. The panel on the right explains what that means: **Live on your site after the next deploy.**

![The right panel showing Published, Published changes aren't live yet, and an outlined Deploy button](https://mintcdn.com/locusdigital/FVlEfoFyGPs7ebKP/images/how-tos/site-builder/cms-06-saved-closeup.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=FVlEfoFyGPs7ebKP\&q=85\&s=6eb6beb705abc3de25860dc1de0fac69)

## Put it on your live site

Under **Deploy state**, the panel says **Published changes aren't live yet**. Click **Deploy** there. The builder goes back to the preview and opens the Deploy menu, where you click **Deploy** on the **Production** row, the same as in [Publish Your Changes](/how-tos/site-builder/publish).

A few minutes later, the new question is on the live site:

> [!NOTE]
>
> Publishing needs permission to publish the site. Owners, admins, managers, members and the Marketing role have it unless your account changed that. Without it, the panel says so instead of showing the Deploy button; ask someone who can publish to do it for you.

## Go back to an earlier version of an entry

Every save is kept. In the panel on the right, click **Version history** to see each version, who saved it and when. Pick one and click **Restore this version** to bring it back; this adds a new version on top, so nothing is lost. Then publish as above.

## Good to know

* **Blog posts written in Marketing.** If a post was written in **Marketing > Content**, its CMS entry shows **Also edited in Marketing**. Edit it in one place only; see [Write and Publish a Blog Post](/how-tos/site-builder/write-a-blog-post).
* **Branches.** The CMS is read-only while you work on a branch. Switch back to **Your site** to edit content.
