# Replace a Photo on Your Site

> Swap a picture on your website for one from your Media Library, describe it for screen readers, and publish it

You can swap any photo on your site in the builder, without asking the AI: pick the photo, choose a new one from your Media Library or your computer, and describe it. The new photo is saved to your site right away and reaches visitors when you publish.

This guide swaps the story photo on Northwind's About page for a photo of a Guatemalan coffee farm.

## Pick the photo

**1. Open the page**

Open your site in the builder (see [Open Your Site in the Builder](/how-tos/site-builder/open-your-site)) and choose the page in the page menu above the preview. Here it is **/about**.

**2. Click Visual Edit**

Click **Visual Edit** in the toolbar above the preview.

**3. Double-click the photo**

Double-click the photo you want to change. (A single click selects the box around it.) The panel on the left shows the photo's **Image** section: the current picture, **Upload**, **Media library**, **Image URL** and **Alt text**.

![The Style inspector for the selected img, with the Image section outlined: a preview of the roastery photo, the Upload and Media library buttons, the Image URL and the Alt text Jamie Holloway at the roaster](https://mintcdn.com/locusdigital/q9a8JAr-KPlU71gr/images/how-tos/site-builder/photo-02-image-panel-closeup.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=q9a8JAr-KPlU71gr\&q=85\&s=e2b812fc1c54e13b9a778fe63c051dd9)

The panel may say the element appears more than once on the page and that edits change all of them. Check the preview after you swap: on Northwind only the photo you picked changed.

## Choose the new photo

**1. Click Media library**

Click **Media library**. The **Select Media** box opens, with your site's own pictures under **Site Files**, everything in your Media Library under **My Assets**, and **Brand**, **Stock Photos** and **AI Create**.

**2. Pick the photo and click Insert Media**

On **My Assets**, type a word from the photo's name in the search box (here "guatemala"), click the photo, then click **Insert Media**. The cards are labeled with each photo's stored file name rather than the name you gave it, so pick by the picture and its folder (here **Origin photos**). The photo changes in the preview straight away and is saved to the page.

To use a photo from your computer instead, click **Upload** in the **Image** section (images up to 10 MB), then click **Apply**.

**3. Describe it and click Apply**

**Alt text** is filled in from the photo's alt text in your Media Library, or its name if it has none. Make sure it says what is in the picture. If you change it, click **Apply**. Screen readers read it aloud, and search engines use it too.

The About page now shows the new photo.

## If a click selects something else

Some photos sit under a color tint or a shade, so clicking them selects the tint instead. Pick the photo from the list of everything on the page:

**1. Open the Navigator**

Click the layers icon in the strip on the far left of the panel. The **Navigator** lists every part of the page.

**2. Click the img row**

Open the section the photo is in and click its **img** row. Then click the paintbrush icon at the top of the strip (the **Style inspector**) to see the photo's **Image** section.

## Put it on your live site

The new photo is saved to your site, but visitors see it after you publish. Click **Deploy** at the top right of the builder, then **Deploy** next to **Production** (see [Publish Your Changes](/how-tos/site-builder/publish)).

## Good to know

* **Photos behind text.** A photo used as a background (behind a headline, for example) has no **Upload** or **Media library** buttons: the panel says background images can't be edited here yet. Ask the AI in the builder chat instead, for example "Change the photo behind the headline on the home page to the Guatemala farm photo from my Media Library."
* **Changed your mind?** Pick the photo that was there before: your site's original pictures are under **Site Files** in the **Select Media** box.
* **Name your photos well.** The search in **Select Media** finds photos by the names and tags you give them in your Media Library. See [Upload and Organize Your Photos](/how-tos/content/upload-and-organize-media).
* **More:** [Edit Text and Styles by Clicking](/how-tos/site-builder/edit-visually) covers the rest of Visual Edit, and [Media Library and AI Images](/design/media-library) covers where your pictures live.
