# Download a Backup of Your Whole Site

> Make a backup of your website's files, media and database whenever you like, and download it as a ZIP to keep your own copy

Hiveku makes backups of your website by itself when you publish. You can also make one yourself at any time, for example before a big change, and download it as a ZIP file to keep a copy of your own.

This guide makes a backup of Northwind's website and downloads it.

## Open your site's backups

Open your website, click its name at the top of the page, then **Hosting**. Click **Backups**.

**Project Backups** lists every backup, newest first. The ones marked **deployment** were made by a publish.

## Make a backup

**1. Click New Backup**

**2. Click Create Backup**

The backup holds all of your site's files and media, and its database if it has one.

![Create Backup: Creates a snapshot of all files and assets, and of the project's database if it has one, with the Create Backup button outlined](https://mintcdn.com/locusdigital/wnvs-fJmAs0r3n91/images/how-tos/websites/bk-02-create-closeup.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=wnvs-fJmAs0r3n91\&q=85\&s=bcfa5537ef2e1d2864405c261a110a34)

In a few seconds the backup appears at the top of the list, marked **manual**, with the number of files and media, whether it holds a database, its size and when it was made. Northwind's site has no database, so it reads **None**.

## Download it

Click the download arrow on the backup. Your browser saves a ZIP file with your site's files, and a copy of its database if it has one.

> [!NOTE]
>
> For now, the ZIP can leave out some of the pictures your site uses. It lists every one of them in the file assets-manifest.json inside it.

## Good to know

* **The other two buttons.** The circular arrow, **Restore backup**, makes your site's files match that backup, and the trash can, **Delete backup**, deletes it. This guide uses neither.
* **A site with a database.** Its backups also have a button to download the database copy on its own, and a **Replace database** button that overwrites your database with the copy. The ZIP holds the copy only when it is small.
* **More:** [Publish Your Changes](/how-tos/site-builder/publish) and [Try a Change on a Branch First](/how-tos/site-builder/try-on-a-branch).
