# Let Your Uptime Monitor Past the Firewall

> Allow your own uptime monitor or audit tool past your site's firewall, and remove it again when you no longer use it

Every site Hiveku hosts sits behind a firewall that stops automated tools it can't identify. Real visitors, search engines and common uptime monitors pass without you doing anything. If you run your own monitor or an agency's audit tool and it gets turned away, allow it by name.

This guide allows a made-up monitor on Northwind's Pearl District site, then removes it.

## Find your monitor's name

Your tool sends a name with every request, called its **user agent**. Look in the tool's settings or help page for it. Use the part that names the product and its version, for example `NorthwindMonitor/1.0`, not a general word like `Mozilla` or `bot`.

## Open the Firewall section

Open the website, click its name at the top of the page, then **Hosting**. Click **Production**, then scroll to **Firewall** and click **Allow a client**.

![Firewall, Edge protection for Production: Hiveku's edge firewall protects this site; real visitors, search engines, AI assistants, link previews and common uptime monitors pass. Allow a client is outlined at the top right](https://mintcdn.com/locusdigital/unRIu0gNDNml8Pw-/images/how-tos/websites/fw-01-section-closeup.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=unRIu0gNDNml8Pw-\&q=85\&s=82b75a49d63b4691ada8b3196392978b)

Under the counters, **Automated clients that were challenged or blocked** lists the tools the firewall turned away in the last 7 days. If yours is there and its row shows **Allow**, click it instead. The list updates once a day.

## Allow the monitor

Leave **Allow by** on **User-agent token**, type your tool's name in **Token**, and add a **Note** so your team knows what it is. Click **Allow**.

![Allow this client: Allow by User-agent token, Token NorthwindMonitor/1.0, Note (optional) Our uptime check, every 5 minutes, and the Allow button outlined, with Cancel](https://mintcdn.com/locusdigital/unRIu0gNDNml8Pw-/images/how-tos/websites/fw-02-allow-closeup.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=unRIu0gNDNml8Pw-\&q=85\&s=31ae68965b24a65acf0691635b12bfc3)

A message says the firewall applies it within a minute (sometimes it says within the day instead), and the monitor appears under **Allowed for this site**, with who added it and when.

![Under Allowed for this site, outlined: User agent NorthwindMonitor/1.0, Our uptime check, every 5 minutes, added by Jamie Holloway on 2026-10-22, with Remove](https://mintcdn.com/locusdigital/unRIu0gNDNml8Pw-/images/how-tos/websites/fw-03-allowed-closeup.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=unRIu0gNDNml8Pw-\&q=85\&s=ee3729472a07727a04d283b8dd906c83)

No deploy is needed.

## Remove it when you're done

Click **Remove** on its row. It's removed right away, without a confirm step, so click it only when you mean it. Northwind removed its made-up monitor right after this guide.

## Good to know

* **Allowing by address:** if your tool has a fixed IP address, choose **IP address or network** under **Allow by** instead. An allowed address is trusted on every Hiveku-hosted site, while an allowed name works on this site only.
* **Some limits still apply.** Allowing a tool doesn't lift the limit on how many requests one address can send, the check on very high volume, or the block on known bulk-scraping networks.
* **More detail:** [Allow a Monitor Through the Firewall](/how-tos/site-firewall) explains the counters, what a turned-away tool receives, and every rule.
