# Send an Old Page Address to a New One

> Add a redirect so visitors and search engines that follow an old link land on the right page, and make it live

When you rename a page or take one down, links to its old address stop working: in old emails, on other sites and in Google. A redirect sends anyone who opens the old address to the new page instead.

This guide sends Northwind's old address /our-story to its About page, /about.

## Add the redirect

**1. Open Redirects**

Open your website, click its name at the top of the page, then **Hosting**. Click **Redirects**.

**2. Type the old and new addresses**

Click **Add**. Type the old address in the first box and the page it should go to in the second, each starting with a slash. Leave **301** for a page that has moved for good, or pick **302** for a short-term move. Click **Add**.

The redirect joins the list, marked **Active**.

## Make it live

A saved redirect isn't on your live site yet. The page says **You have undeployed changes**: saved redirects go live with your next publish to production, or right away with **Deploy Changes**, whichever comes first.

To make it live now, click **Deploy Changes**, then **Deploy**. It reaches visitors everywhere in 10 to 15 minutes. Tick **Also deploy to development** first if your Development version should get it too. This guide stops before **Deploy**. A saved redirect still goes live with the site's next publish, so Northwind's test redirect was deleted after the screenshots.

## Good to know

* **Many redirects.** **Import** takes a spreadsheet saved as CSV, and **Sample** downloads one to start from. **Export** saves the list.
* **A whole section at once.** **Add** makes a redirect for one address. To send every page under an old address to the matching page under a new one, such as /blog to /articles, import a CSV row whose match\_type is prefix, as in the **Sample** file.
* **Remove one.** The trash can on its row deletes it, after you confirm. The change goes live with the next deploy, like any other.
* **Built in.** Addresses ending in /index.html already go to the clean address by themselves.
* **More:** [Run a Site Audit and Fix What It Finds](/how-tos/marketing/site-audit) finds broken links worth redirecting.
