This page covers connecting a domain you already control to a project. If you do not have a domain yet, or you want to move one to Hiveku from another registrar, see Domains in account settings. Buying through Hiveku means we handle the DNS records below for you.
Domain setup wizard

Open domain settings
Go to Settings > Domain in your project.

Start the wizard
Click Add Custom Domain to open the setup wizard.

Enter your domain
Type your domain name (e.g.,
www.example.com or example.com).4
Add a CNAME record
The wizard displays a CNAME record to add at your DNS provider. The record points your domain to Hiveku’s servers.
For apex domains (e.g.,
example.com without www), use an ALIAS or ANAME record if your DNS provider supports it, or set up a redirect from the apex to www.5
SSL is auto-provisioned
Once DNS propagates, Hiveku automatically provisions a free SSL certificate via Let’s Encrypt. Your site is served over HTTPS with no additional configuration.

Verify
The wizard checks your DNS records and confirms when everything is connected. A green checkmark appears next to your domain.
Move a live site without downtime
If your domain already shows a website somewhere else, you can move it to Hiveku with no moment where visitors see a security warning. Your site keeps running where it is while Hiveku gets the secure certificate. You switch your domain only when Hiveku says it is ready, and HTTPS works from the first visit.1
Choose the move
In Settings, under Custom domains, click Connect a domain and type your domain. Under Is this domain showing a live website right now?, choose Yes, move my live site without downtime, then click Start the move. Typing www.yourbusiness.com also moves yourbusiness.com while Also send yourbusiness.com to www.yourbusiness.com stays ticked.

Add one record at your current DNS host
Under Add at your current DNS host, Hiveku shows one record for each name, with a copy button for its name and value. Add it where you manage DNS today, next to the records already there. Do not change or delete any other record: nothing changes for your visitors yet.

Let Hiveku get the certificate
Hiveku checks for the record by itself, even after you close the page: every few minutes at first, then less often, and hourly once a week has passed. Once it finds the record, the certificate usually arrives within a few minutes, and Hiveku puts your domain on your site with it.

Switch www when it reads Ready to switch
Under Switch your domain, the card lists the www record to change once it reads Ready to switch. Change it then: HTTPS works from the first visit. Until a domain is ready, the card reads Not yet next to it and says what comes first.

Then switch your domain without www
Your domain without www comes after www. Once www reads Live, the card lists its two A records. Change them, and remove its other A and AAAA records. Switching it before www could send visitors round in a loop between your old host and Hiveku.

Done
Once Hiveku sees both changes, your domain shows as Live under Custom domains. With the page open, the move reads Moved until you click Close. Keep the records you added in the second step: they renew the certificate.
- A typo in the record. The card says what it found instead. If your DNS host adds your domain to every name by itself, enter the name without it; the card tells you when the domain ended up in the name twice.
- Fix this first. Some website hosts only let certain companies issue certificates for the addresses they serve. If your www record points at such a host, the card reads Fix a DNS setting first and says what to change: usually replace that CNAME record with an A record for your current host, using the address your current host lists. If your own domain limits who can issue certificates, the card shows the record to add next to the ones already there.
- One more record, sometimes. If your domain already had the record Hiveku asks for, left from an earlier setup, that record does not show the domain is yours today. The card then reads Confirm the domain is yours and shows a TXT record under Fix this first. Add it where you manage DNS; the move continues once Hiveku finds it.
- No rush. If Hiveku does not find the record within 3 days, the first certificate request expires, and Hiveku asks again as soon as it sees the record.
- Changing your mind. Click Stop the move any time before you switch. Hiveku takes the domain off your site and deletes the certificate it asked for, and your site keeps running where it is. Once www is live, Stop the move stops only your domain without www, which stays where it is.
- When to use it. The move is for your site’s first domain. A domain that is new or not in use connects the usual way, with No, it is new or not in use.
Verifying DNS
After adding the CNAME record, DNS propagation can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours. You can check propagation status with tools like dnschecker.org.Cloudflare users
If you use Cloudflare for DNS, keep these settings in mind:Multiple domains
Depending on your plan tier, you can connect multiple domains to a single project:- One domain is designated as the Primary domain — this is the canonical URL for your site
- Additional domains redirect to the primary domain automatically
Removing a domain
Go to Settings > Domain, click the trash icon next to the domain you want to remove, and confirm. The SSL certificate is revoked and the domain is disconnected immediately. Your site remains accessible at itshiveku.com subdomain.
