When you sell to businesses, you deal with people who work somewhere. A company record keeps that business in one place: its details, the people you talk to there, its deals, and its invoices and quotes. This guide adds Fernwood Bakery, a Portland café that buys coffee from Northwind, and links Priya Shah, who runs it.

Add the company

Finding Priya

The number next to Contacts counts the people linked. Create contact adds someone new and links them in one step. The x on a row unlinks the person from the company; the contact itself stays in your CRM.

Good to know

  • Invoices and quotes. Billing on the company lists its Estimates, Invoices, Contracts and Subscriptions. The new-contract button there starts a contract for this company; for an estimate or an invoice, start one and pick the company on the form.
  • Tax. Type the State under Billing address & tax on the company and click Save: it decides which tax rule applies to its invoices, ahead of the contact’s own state. Tax exempt charges no tax on its invoices.
  • Keep a history. Log activity records a note, call, email, meeting or task on the company, and it shows in the Activity Timeline.
  • More: Bring Your Contacts In from a Spreadsheet links each person to a company from a Company column, and Add Your Own Fields adds fields to companies too.
