An event is over, a price changed, or a post went out too soon. Unpublish takes it off your website and keeps it as a draft, so you can fix it and publish it again. Archive also clears it out of your list of posts. This guide takes down “Cupping Night at Pearl District”, a post on the blog of Northwind’s Pearl District site.

Find it in Content

Click Marketing in the left rail, then Content. If you have more than one website, pick the site in the box next to Search posts. Each card says whether the post is Live on your site.

Click the post

Click the post’s card to open it. Skip Delete in the card’s … menu: unpublishing keeps the post, so you can use it again.

Click Unpublish

In the panel on the right, scroll down to Status and click Unpublish.

All content, Cupping Night at Pearl District, and the message outlined: Unpublished, and removed from the site's files. The site is redeploying; the page comes down in a few minutes.

If your role can’t publish the site, the post still goes back to a draft, and its page comes down the next time someone publishes the site.

A few minutes later the post is gone. Northwind’s site finished publishing about 3 minutes after the click. Its blog now has no posts:

Or archive it

Archive, under Unpublish, is for a post you’re finished with. It moves the post out of your list: you’ll find it only under the Archived filter. Leave Also take it off the site ticked to take its page down as well. Restore on an archived post brings it back to your list.

Good to know

  • Putting it back. Open the draft, make your changes and click Publish at the top.
  • Links to the post from your other pages or emails lead to the “page not found” page while it is down.
  • Taking down something that isn’t a post, such as a page or a menu? Ask the AI in the builder to remove it, then publish the site. See Make a Change with the AI Chat.
