A site audit visits the pages of your website the way a search engine does and lists what holds them back: links that go nowhere, slow pages, images with no description, page titles that get cut off. Each problem comes with what to do about it. This guide audits the live Northwind site and finds where each fix is made.

Fixes, most important first

Fix what it finds

You fix each problem in your site, most of them in the site builder:
  • 404 and other 4xx errors: ask the AI in the site builder to add the missing pages or to point the links at pages that exist (see Make a Change with the AI Chat). If a page moved, send its old address to the new one with a redirect (see Manage URL Redirects).
  • Title tags too long: shorten the titles of the pages listed to about 60 characters (see Improve How a Page Shows in Google).
  • Missing image alt text: ask the AI to add a short description to each image on the pages listed.
  • Slow loading pages: ask the AI to make the page lighter, for example by shrinking its images.
Then publish your changes (see Publish Your Changes) and run the audit again: the audit checks what visitors see, so a fix counts once it is live.

Good to know

  • Fix errors first. Links that go nowhere stop visitors and search engines alike; long titles and missing descriptions can wait.
  • Audit any address. You can audit a competitor’s site the same way, to compare. Each audit uses some of your plan’s monthly SEO research, so audit the pages that matter.
  • More: Run an AI SEO Site Audit covers every check, and Track Where You Rank on Google shows whether your fixes move you up.
