When your site shows up in Google, people see the page’s title and description. Short or vague ones get fewer clicks. The SEO tab in the builder shows which pages need work and lets you fix them without code. In this example the Northwind home page had the title “Home” and the description “Home page”. We gave it a proper title and description.

Find the pages that need work

1

Open the SEO tab

In the row of icons above the preview, click SEO (the magnifying glass). Your pages appear as a map, with a Site SEO score and the Top issues across the site, such as Title is short and Description is short.
2

Open a page

Double-click a page’s box on the map. Its panel opens on the right, with an On-page audit: a score and the issues found on that page.

Fix the title and description

1

Write a better title

Under Basic Meta, replace the Meta Title. Say what the business is and what makes it different. Aim for 50 to 60 characters: the counter beside it is yellow under 30 characters and red over 70.
2

Write a better description

Replace the Meta Description with one or two sentences that make someone want to click, in about 120 to 160 characters.

3

Click Save SEO Settings

Click Save SEO Settings at the bottom of the panel. You see SEO settings saved successfully.

4

Preview it

Scroll down the panel to Live Previews to see how the page will look in Google, Facebook and Twitter.

The new title and description reach your live site, and then Google, the next time you publish. Google can take days to weeks to show the change in search results.

Good to know

  • Scores. Pages are scored when you open the SEO tab. After you save, click Refresh audit on the Site SEO card to score them again. On a branch, the card says the audit runs on Your site.
  • Social sharing. The same panel has Open Graph and Twitter Card sections for the title, description and picture used when someone shares the page.
  • Blog posts get their titles and descriptions in the post editor; see Write and Publish a Blog Post.
  • More SEO: Optimize Your Site for SEO.
