Most visitors leave before they get in touch. Knowing where they leave tells you what to fix: a page nobody finds, a step that loses people, a form nobody reaches. Your site’s analytics shows this as a funnel, the steps toward getting in touch, and as journeys, the pages people actually move between. This guide uses the website of Locus Digital, a marketing agency, with real visitor numbers.

Open your site’s analytics

Click Websites in the left rail, then ⋮ on the site’s card, then Analytics. Pick the dates at the top right, such as Last 90 Days.

Build a funnel of your own steps

1

Open Funnels

Click Funnels. Choose Custom Steps from the list at the top right, then click the gear next to it.
2

List the pages in order

Under Funnel Steps, type the pages a visitor passes on the way to getting in touch, in order, separated by commas. Start with / for the home page, for example /,/our-work,/contact-us,/free-quote. Click Apply.
3

Read where people leave

Each step shows how many visitors reached it. Under each step, dropped is how many left before it, and continued is the share who went on to the next step.
Conversion Funnel with Custom Steps chosen, outlined; Funnel Steps /,/our-work,/contact-us,/free-quote and Apply, outlined; Entry 12,040, Completed 7; Homepage 12,040 visitors, /our-work 66 visitors with 11,974 dropped (99%) and 20% continued, outlined, /contact-us 13 visitors, and /free-quote 7 visitors

Home page to quote request

Here, almost everyone who lands on the home page leaves without opening Our work. That’s the step to fix first: a clearer button on the home page, or a quote form people can reach from it. The ready-made funnels in the list, such as Homepage → Contact, assume pages called /about and /contact. If your pages have other names, use Custom Steps.

See the paths people really take

Click Journeys. Page Flow lists the most common moves from one page to the next, with how many sessions took each. Entry Pages shows where people arrive, and Exit Pages where they leave.
Journeys tab, outlined; User Journeys: Sessions 40,891, Avg Pages/Session 1, Top Flows 10; Page Flow, Entry Pages and Exit Pages; and the flows Homepage to Contact Us 19 (9%), outlined, Homepage to Free Quote 12, Contact Us to Homepage 9, one page name hidden to Homepage 7, Homepage to Our Work 7

The most common paths

A path you expected but don’t see, such as Homepage → Free Quote, means people aren’t finding that link.
